CleanStart was founded in 2005 as a nonprofit organization designed to accelerate the development of clean technology ventures within the Northern California region. Our mission is to empower entrepreneurs with the knowledge, capital, and connections that are critical to creating a successful new business. We do this by connecting the Northern California region’s cleantech community through CleanStart PowerUP! Promoting the region’s cleantech economy in the annual CleanStart Progress Report, on social media & news outlets and at statewide and national events. Educating Clean Tech business leaders through classes and the Entrepreneurs Showcase sponsored by Velocity Venture Capital. 

Carlsen Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship

The Carlsen Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at Sacramento State provides access to innovation and entrepreneurship through education, programs and mentorship. By forging alliances with students and faculty, along with public and private organizations, the Center offers practical experience in experimentation and innovation, coupled with networking and collaborative opportunities to support the next generation of impact-driven innovators and entrepreneurs at Sac State and in the regional ecosystem.

Center for Small Business

The Center for Small Businesses (CSB) is one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the United States. For more than thirty-five years, the CSB has served in excess of 3,000 small businesses in the Greater Sacramento area. The CSB offers free technical management assistance in all areas of business other than taxation, law, and loan packaging, to small for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. The services are provided by juniors, seniors, and graduate students under faculty supervision. These students are assigned to work with clients of the CSB as part of their coursework in various classes offered by the College of Business Administration. To learn more, visit
